Are some things too simple to ask God about?
Do some things just seem too obvious to spend time in prayer over?
Shouldn't we simply go ahead and do the obvious things without "seeking guidance"?
While I'm sure there ARE times God wants us to stop praying and start acting, (he told Joshua to stop praying and take care of the sin in the camp Joshua 7:10), I don't think we're usually paralyzed by too much prayer.
One of the phrases that is used to describe David is that he "inquired of the LORD". A couple of those examples happen in 2 Samuel 5:17, 23.
David is king. He does what good kings should do. He leads (in this case the army against enemies). But before he takes off into battle, he "inquires of the LORD":
"Shall I go and attack...?
The 1st time God gives the go ahead. "Go, for I will surely hand the Philistines over to you."
The 2nd time God gives a more nuanced answer: "DO not go straight up, but circle around behind them...As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move quickly, because that will mean the LORD has gone out in front of you..."
Imagine what David might have missed had he not asked God!
Now, what might you and I miss because WE don't pause and "inquire of the LORD"?
Grace & peace
